How does one know if they have the skills to become a "professional" organizer?
You will need excellent listening and evaluative skills.  Perhaps you have a background in a field that has required you to organize people or create systems.  If you enjoyed and excelled in those areas, then with some training you could be a good candidate for becoming an organizing consultant.

Are there educational courses to help develop organizing skills?
There are, but we suggest you first read our top 10 recommended book list and schedule a consultation with us to see what type of training would most benefit you.

Who would be able to test my skills as an organizer?
Offer a friend or colleague an organization session in a field that interests you.  Have them critique your work and determine how much they would pay you for the work you accomplished.

What areas of expertise are most in demand today?
Need and requirement evaluations
Office electronic and paper organization
Computer file systems
Time management
Residential and home office
Legal and medical offices

Do you have training sessions?
Yes, ongoing sessions in different disciplines.

What type of clients could I expect to work with?
Small business owners
Corporate
Professional
Residential and home office
Special needs; ADD, ADHD, Chronically Disorganized, Elderly

What does a client expect from a professional organizer?
Competency, Trustworthiness, Responsibility, Confidentiality, Compassion, and Creativity.

Should one start their own business, or work for a larger firm?
According to the SBA statistics, the average start-up company takes about two years for the owner to realize a profit.  In your own business, approximately 1/3 of your time and money is spent with clients, 1/3 is administrative, legal, etc., and 1/3 is marketing and sales.  So whatever your hourly rate with clients, your income is actually about 1/3 of that.  That is of course after you have spent the time and money to acquire the clientele.  With us, you will have ongoing income, without the headaches and expenses of owning a business.

How often does Working Order interview for new organizers?
Monthly.

Would I work as a full-time or part-time employee? Is there enough regular business to support myself as an organizer?
Our organizers work as independent contractors and can work as many hours as they wish. If you have/develop skills in different areas of organizing, you will be in more demand.

What would a professional organizer expect to receive for services?
Hourly rates can vary dramatically and are dependent on your skills.  Serious computer skills, evaluative skills, and general business skills are important.  Additional rewards come in the form of knowing you have made a permanent difference in someone's life.
